Planting Potatoes

Planting potatoes can be very rewarding and fun for people with or without kids. Not only do you get to plant another crop, but then the kid in you gets to dig in the dirt to find the buried "treasure". I planted my potatoes in a five gallon bucket in my driveway. It makes it very easy to harvest this way as the soil is very easy to break apart and retrieve the potatoes. Use the links below to order the necessary items to start your own potato plants. Happy potato planting!

  1. Look forward to seeing the first 'harvest'. Looks like you did two eye clusters per bucket early this year. I'll be interested to see if the four eye clusters produce smaller potatoes due to competition.

  2. I harvested the first round and got about 8-10 potatoes that ranged from the size of my fist to the size of a grape. They were delicious. I planted three whole seed potatoes per pot. I ended up thinning the newer pot that I planted down from the four eyes to two. I hope to get bigger potatoes. Stay tuned.
